TECNO – the Base is a first-person shooter with some puzzle elements. You play Alexia Rietvell, a worker who must flee the TECNO BASE after an experiment goes wrong and turns the base’s robots hostile. TECNO – the Base, isn’t one of them, however. The reason is the game isn’t hyped as those above is the developer is as indie as it gets. And yes, its made by a single person, not a multimillion company with staff big enough to fill a couple of Titanics (and sink due to big costs and zero income). However it lacks nothing you can find in those multi-A titles, except maybe the normal maps. But who needs normal maps? Doom had no normal maps, Quake had no normal maps, Half Life had no normal maps not even Super Mario had normal maps. Soldier of Fortune: Payback had normal maps and shiny enemies, but don’t look at me if you play that game.
TECNO – the Base has 2001-era visuals, but those visuals are consistent. You won’t see a 4096×4096 texture near a 256×256 texture, looking out of place (you won’t see such a texture at all actually). This consistency helps the game to suck you into its atmospheric environment.
The sound of the game is good. Nothing special, it does the job, although i would like some mysterious background music. However its definitely much better than most freeware “look what i’ve done in FPS Creator in 10 seconds” FPS games (btw why FPS Creators sounds suck so much? One would think that the company would spend at least a couple of licenses to pay a sound guy make them some serious sounds).
